Today, to the east of Aden in Abyan governorate, large crowds gathered to celebrate the anniversary of South Yemen's independence from Britain.
In the "Martyrs Square" in Abyan's capital city Zinjibar, thousands celebrated the 55th anniversary of November 30, 1967, when the last British soldier departed from Aden.

The participants raised the flag of the former state of South Yemen, and chanted slogans that renewed adherence to the second independence of South today in the presence of senior STC officials.
Meanwhile, other cities in South Yemen are preparing to hold other public celebrations tomorrow.

These celebrations in Abyan come after a military operation carried out by the Southern forces against AQAP in the central regions of Abyan during the past weeks.

The Southern forces were able to overthrow AQAP's largest military camp in the Arabian Peninsula located in Wadi Oemran as well as to secure a number of districts.
