How to Read the Figures and Map
Each record counts as one event and may be linked to more than one location. The number of map markers therefore does not equal the number of events. Events spanning several dates are assigned to their start date.
Coordinates may represent an approximate location within the named city or area. Reporting-source locations are distinguished from incident locations.
Total casualties combines those killed, those wounded and casualties reported without a breakdown, using the figures approved for inclusion and retaining qualifiers such as “approximately” and “at least.”
Reported cumulative casualties are shown in a separate chart by reporting source and casualty identity, where available. The periods covered by these announcements may overlap, so their sum is not automatically added to the approved total.
Selecting a period updates all indicators, charts, the map and the event log. Search and filter options affect only the map, the event log and the statistical summary within the map.
Circle sizes and density shading reflect the concentration of displayed events, not the number of casualties or the severity of an event.
How to Use the Map and Share Its Findings
Select a period, then use the filters to explore events by region, operation type, acting party and casualty category.
Select a circle on the map to read event details, or open an event from the log. Enable the density view to identify areas where events are concentrated.
Save images of the map and charts for use in reports and presentations, retaining South24 Center’s attribution and specifying the period shown.
Share a link to the map with your current selections, or to an individual event, to help others access the data and details.
When citing the map, use: “Source: South24 Center, Interactive Map of Military and Security Monitoring in Yemen”, specifying the period and access date and including the link.
Coverage, Editorial Review and Corrections
The map includes events documented by South24 Center during the displayed period and does not necessarily provide an exhaustive record of all events that occurred.
To suggest adding an event, amending its details or correcting casualty figures, email map@south24.net, including the event link and a source or information supporting the correction.
Some data were processed with the assistance of artificial intelligence tools, under the supervision and review of a specialist editor at South24 Center.
