On Tuesday evening, the Giants Forces of peacekeeping in Abyan Governorate, South Yemen, managed to free dozens of African migrants who were being held in the house of a smuggler.

The official website [1] of the "southern" Giants Forces said that dozens of African women and men were illegally detained in the house of a smuggler.

"The Giants' forces gave the smugglers a deadline to release the detainees, to avoid clashing with them, given that the area is a former conflict zone between the forces of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and the legitimacy," the site said.

The Giants forces coordinated with the operations of the STC and the government to liberate the migrants of "the grip of the smugglers who fled."

The smuggling of African migrants is increasing in coastal areas such as Shabwa and the Red Sea coasts in Yemen.

International official said as many as 300 migrants may have died after a ship capsized recently off the Yemen's coast. [2]

Citizens told "South24" a few weeks ago that fishermen found dozens of bodies lying on the seashore in the Ras al-Ara area in Lahj governorate.

Migrants seek to cross into oil-rich Saudi Arabia, but because the route is fraught with danger, and many of them are exploited, some migrants return to Aden,South Yemen, where they place a heavy burden on local citizens struggling to survive.
