Today, the Southern Transitional Council (STC) warned against the fabrication of new economic and service crises which, it alleges, are prepared by forces in the Yemeni government to be launched during the coming days.
This warning was issued during a meeting of the STC's Presidium, chaired by Ali Al-Kathiri, Chairman of the National Assembly.
An official statement said that the meeting with STC-affiliated government ministers discussed the electricity crisis in Aden, which reached its peak days ago.
The statement said: "the Presidium warned of the tendencies of the decision-making forces in the government to continue managing the country through crises and to prepare to launch new and successive crises after the electricity crisis, most notably salaries and the strategic food stocks".
It also stated that the impacts of these plots will severely harm the political situation, and that their ramifications are unpredictable.
Furthermore, the statement blamed the government and Central Bank in Aden for the local currency’s sharp decline, which recently reached its lowest level since the formation of the STC. The value of one US dollar is now equivalent to 1530 Yemeni riyals.
The statement called on the PLC and Saudi-led coalition to provide fuel for electricity in Aden and South Yemen’s governorates. Moreover, it demanded the resumption of work in Aden’s Refineries.
The past few days have seen daily power outage durations exceed 20 hours as a result of fuel depletion. Despite repeated pleas from the Electricity Authority, the Yemeni government hasn't issued any response.
