STC warns of Yemeni parties' activity in South

The Southern National Assembly of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) issued a warning early Wednesday about the resurgence of Yemeni political party activity in South, urging the public to confront "any suspicious or hostile activities."
"We affirm our absolute rejection of any attempts to revive and empower the partisan and political forces that invaded South in 1994,” the Southern National Assembly said in a statement.
The statement did not name specific Yemeni parties but referred to those "subject to the Houthi militia and normalized relations with them.”
The warning appears to be directed at the Islah Party and the General People's Congress (GPC), the two largest Northern parties that formed an alliance in 1994 against South Yemen during the bloody civil war.
The STC said it "will not allow any political activity or event inside South organized by these parties that are hostile to South Issue.”
Although the STC is currently part of the Presidential Leadership Council, which includes figures from Northern parties, it remains distrustful of their activities in South.
The STC demands these Yemeni parties focus on confronting the Houthis in North Yemen and retaking Sanaa.
A faction of the GPC continues to maintain its alliance with the Houthis, despite the killing of former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh by the militia in December 2017 in Sanaa.
Recently, UN sanctions were lifted on Saleh and his son Ahmed (Ahmed Afash). Ahmed remains the deputy head of the GPC in Sanaa, despite the Houthis killing his father.

On Monday, the Houthis announced the formation of a new government in Sanaa, headed by Ahmed Ghaleb al-Rahwi, with 19 ministries.
Defense Minister Mohammed al-Atifi and Interior Minister Abdul Karim al-Houthi retained their positions.
The Houthis appointed their former prime minister, Abdul Aziz bin Habtoor, as a member of the Supreme Political Council after removing him from leading the government.
