In collaboration with the South24 Center for News and Studies, the Egypt-based True Studies Center organized a virtual training course aimed at equipping 20 journalists and researchers from the South24 Center and partner institutions with tools and techniques for measuring public opinion.
Held on October 11 and 12 via ZOOM, the 8-hour course combined theoretical and practical training led by three specialized trainers.
The first day focused on foundational concepts, beginning with lectures that defined public opinion, its significance, and its influence on public policy-making. Participants were introduced to both traditional and modern methods of public opinion measurement, with an emphasis on designing questionnaires and opinion polls. Topics covered included selecting appropriate questions, sampling methods, and measurement tools.
Interactive workshops followed, allowing participants to apply their knowledge practically through platforms such as Google Forms and SurveyMonkey. The trainers also highlighted common challenges in data collection and analysis, offering strategies to overcome them.
On the second day, the course explored the analysis and interpretation of public opinion data using quantitative and qualitative tools. Participants learned how to translate survey findings into actionable strategies for use in media and political campaigns. The trainers also addressed ethical considerations in data collection, such as protecting privacy and minimizing bias.
The training concluded with an advanced workshop on utilizing SPSS and Microsoft Excel to analyze survey results. Participants were taught how to prepare comprehensive reports based on the extracted data to inform decision-making and develop effective strategies.
Both South24 and True Studies Center provided e-certificates to participants who completed the full course. This training marks the first official collaboration between the two organizations.
