The Houthi militia said on Monday (September 14) that it had carried out a large-scale attack on King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushait, southern Saudi Arabia, using dozens of missiles and drones.

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the operation targeted military facilities inside the base, claiming it caused “heavy losses.”

Saree said the attack came in response to what he described as “Saudi escalation” and more than 300 airstrikes over the past five days. He added that Saudi F-15 and Typhoon fighter jets had taken off from bases in Khamis Mushait and Taif to strike several Yemeni governorates.

In Tehran, Iran’s Foreign Ministry denied any involvement in attacks on Saudi oil facilities and said Iran had no role in the current developments in Yemen, amid mounting accusations that Tehran is backing the Houthis’ latest escalation.

The Houthi announcement follows days of attacks on energy, civilian, and economic facilities in Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Ministry of Energy also announced the shutdown of the East-West oil pipeline after it was targeted in the Riyadh and Madinah regions.

Separately, Israel Hayom reported that Saudi Arabia had sought intelligence and other assistance from Israel to prevent the Houthis from closing the Bab Al-Mandab Strait. According to the newspaper, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman sent messages to Egypt and Gulf states, as well as indirectly to Israel, seeking support to protect the strategic maritime passage.

On the ground, military sources told South24 Center that three members of the Southern Giants Brigades were wounded in an accidental Saudi strike in the Kahboub area near Bab Al-Mandab. On the same front, the Southern Giants Brigades released footage they said showed the destruction of a Houthi BMP armored vehicle.

The developments come amid continued military tensions around Bab Al-Mandab and Yemen’s Western Coast following the Houthis’ seizure of Al-Mokha and positions near the strait, followed by airstrikes and intermittent clashes with Southern and government-aligned forces.
