Aden (South24)

Aden Security forces seized, on Monday evening, large quantities of heroin and cocaine on board a sugar shipment coming from Brazil, in the port of Aden.

The security operation carried out by the counter-terrorism forces and the Free Zone Police resulted in the seizure of more than 200 kilograms of drugs, according to a security source for "South24".

The source indicated that this quantity is likely to increase with the continuation of inspections of other sugar containers on board.

In a post on his Facebook account, the counter-terrorism team commander in Aden, Colonel Yusran Al-Maqtari, pointed out that "extremely large quantities" were seized in a "qualitative operation" carried out by the team.

A statement from the Free Zone Police in the governorate stated that these quantities of heroin and cocaine belong to an "international smuggling network", and were seized with a shipment of sugar coming from Brazil.

It should be noted that the port of Aden witnessed a similar attempt to enter nearly half a ton of cocaine and heroin, on October 27, 2020, in a shipment of sugar, before being seized by the security forces.

The security forces in Aden also destroyed, on November 30, 312 kilograms of hashish, 101 amphetamines, and 36 kilograms of heroin, which were seized in separate operations.

The STC-controlled security forces in Aden are launching continuous arresting campaigns against drug dealers.

The security checkpoints at the entrances to Aden, and the checkpoints affiliated with the Security Belt Forces in Abyan governorate have also thwarted dozens of attempts to smuggle all kinds of drugs.
