Shabwa (South24)

The Giants Brigades Forces announced today sending military units of its forces to Shabwa Governorate, South Yemen, heading from the West Coast.

The force's media center stated that these military movements to the eastern coast of Shabwa will "contribute to "liberating the districts seized by the Iranian-backed Houthis."

These moves came two days after the dismissal of the former pro-Islah governor of Shabwa and the appointment of the tribal sheikh Awad Al-Wazir Al-Awlaqi as a new governor.

The new governor was sworn in before Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi, today, according to Saba news agency.

The Houthis had seized the districts of (Upper Beihan, Ain, Usaylan) on September 21st within hours after their forces advanced without resistance from the Islah-controlled government forces.

The Houthis intensified their attack on Marib governorate, North Yemen, after encircling it from the Shabwa side, and overthrowing the Harib and Al-Juba districts.

Officials accused the Islah-controlled government forces of handing over these districts to the Houthis.

Over the past months, Shabwa governorate witnessed a widespread popular and tribal movement against the former governor Mohammad bin Adyo.

Prominent military leaders in the pro-government forces in the governorate also defected, accusing the Islah party of handing over the districts to the Houthis, and demanded their liberation.

It should be noted that the Giants Forces are considered the strongest and largest military formations within the scope of the Joint Forces backed by the Arab Coalition, on the West Coast.

These forces withdrew from areas south of the port city of Hodeidah, November 13. They stated that their withdrawal came in order to "backup other battlefronts".
