Today, the Iranian-backed Houthi militia in Yemen announced that military commanders loyal to former Yemeni Vice President Ali Mohsen Al-Ahmar had joined them.
Houthi-affiliate Saba agency reported that a number of Northern military commanders arrived in Sanaa including the "office director of Ali Mohsen Al-Ahmar and the commander of the Khokha sector in Hodeidah, Major General Abdul Hamid Al-Nahari."
The list included the deputy director of Dahm airport in Marib, Colonel Bakil Ahmed Al-Habbari, and the chief of operations for Al-Baqaa axis brigades in Saada, Colonel Moath Murshid Al-Amiri, according to the agency.
The agency released pictures of the three military commanders with the senior Houthi official Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti who is responsible for receiving those joining the Houthis from other Northern parties.
On May 11, the Houthis announced that an officer in the 141st Infantry Brigade, Hatem Al-Ahmar, had joined them. This brigade is located at Al-Wadiah border crossing with Saudi Arabia in Hadramout, in South Yemen.
Lieutenant General Ali Mohsen Al-Ahmar was removed from his position as the Yemeni Vice President in April 2022 after the formation of the Presidential Leadership Council and the power transfer announcement by the former President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi, under Gulf sponsorship.
The Northern general, who maintained a parallel army during the former Yemeni regime, is accused of coordinating with the Houthis and AQAP.
Al-Ahmar has not yet officially commented on the Houthi allegations.
