Thousands came out in the capital city Aden, and major South Yemeni cities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the October 14 Revolution against British colonialism.

In a mass march in the streets of Aden, young people, children and women carried the national flags of South Yemen and banners of Southern political officials.

The head of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) National Assembly, Ali Al-Kathiri, said today at an artistic ceremony: “Our people are going towards the second independence again.”

Hundreds of citizens gathered in the city of Al-Mahfad in Abyan governorate.

Another artistic ceremony was held in the strategic Socotra Archipelago in the Gulf of Aden.

In Hadramout governorate, hundreds took to the streets of the city of Seiyun yesterday evening to celebrate the October 14 Revolution. The participants chanted slogans calling for the removal of the First Military District forces.

Earlier today, the Southern forces announced the graduation of a new military batch in Al-Dhalea governorate in a ceremony held on the same anniversary.

On October 14, 1963, a popular revolution began in South Yemen against British colonialism, which lasted for a century and nearly three decades. The revolution culminated in the departure of the last British soldier from Aden on November 30, 1967.
