Shabwa (South24)
Today, the fourth annual Shabwa Heritage and Arts Festival commenced in the city of Ataq, South Yemen.
Young girls dressed in traditional garments performed folk dances as part of the inauguration ceremony, which was attended by a South24 correspondent.

According to the Shabwa governorate’s Culture Office, the Heritage and Arts Festival will take place for three days, from October 17th to the 19th.

The festival celebrates Shabwa’s culture and heritage by sampling local cuisine, showcasing traditional costumes, and displaying artistic paintings, in numerous pavilions and exhibitions.
Also featured at the festival are products unique to Shabwa, such as handicrafts, knitwear, and plastic arts. One exhibition presented the iconic honey that Shabwa is known for producing.

The festival also includes ancient stories and dances that hold deep roots in Shabwa’s traditions, alongside popular folklore from across the governorate.

Hundreds of people come from all over the governorate to participate in the festival.
