Top Southern military and security officials today vowed to continue the War on Terror following a terrorist attack yesterday (Feb 16), that led to the killing of the son of Brigadier General Ahmed Hassan Al-Marhabi, Head of the Security Department of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), in the capital Aden.
Security sources told South24 Center that the young man (Mohammad) lost his life in a terrorist bombing that targeted the car he was driving in a street crowded with pedestrians in the Dar Saad District in Aden.
STC President and Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) member, Major General Aidrous Al-Zubaidi, in a statement offering condolences said the “terrorist organizations resorting to these cowardly methods by targeting innocent civilians confirms the state of disarray in which these organizations and the forces that stand behind them and finance them are now living as a result of the painful blows inflicted on them by our armed and security forces throughout the past period”.
The Head of the STC's Security Department, Brigadier General Ahmed Al-Marhabi, vowed to pursue terrorists anywhere in the South. In a televised statement, he said: “We are ready to sacrifice for our homeland and we will not stop our war against terrorism.”
The Governor of Aden, Ahmed Lamlas, said the terrorist attack "is part of the war directed against Aden and is a miserable attempt to thwart efforts to normalize life there and obstruct development."
The STC Vice President and PLC member Major General Faraj Al-Bahsani, said: "The treacherous terrorist acts targeting Aden and its loyal men will never deter them from their national duty to establish the foundations of security and stability."
The PLC Chairman Rashad Al-Alimi expressed his condolences over the incident and said the government will work to pursue the perpetrators. Prime Minister Ahmed bin Mubarak also offered his condolences.
Minister of Information Muammar Al-Eryani said: “The heinous crime reveals the coordination between the Houthi militia and terrorist organizations, and attempts to harm the security situation in the capital, Aden.”
Yesterday’s incident comes more than a year after the cessation of terrorist attacks in Aden as a result of the Southern forces tightening their security grip on the coastal city, and thwarting a number of terrorist attacks, coupled with the arrest of several terror cells.
On November 26, 2023, Aden police revealed a Sanaa-based [Houthi-controlled area] terrorist plot to carry out assassination operations against senior STC officials as well as members of the security and military forces.

Aden security released a video that included video conversations for the first time between the commander of the Yemeni government's Transport Brigade, Brigadier General Amjad Khaled, and a member of the terrorist cell who was arrested on November 9 in the Dar Saad area, north of Aden.
Amjad Khaled is a top military commander affiliated with Yemen's Islah Party (Muslim Brotherhood) and Northern General Ali Mohsen Al-Ahmar.
He is designated in Aden's security list of terrorists and is wanted in connection with cases related to assassinations and bombings that have killed and injured dozens of civilians.
