Today, a South24 correspondent reported that Southern forces repelled an attack launched by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia in Al-Dhalea Governorate, north of the capital, Aden.

The correspondent reported that one Southern soldier was killed while Southern forces were repelling an attack by the Houthis on the Battar front, on the border between Al-Dhalea and the Ibb governorate in North Yemen.

According to the correspondent, the evening attack involved a number of Houthi militants trying to infiltrate the positions of the Southern forces but ultimately failing in their attempt.

The battlefronts in Al-Dhalea Governorate continue to see fighting despite ongoing de-escalation efforts following the end of the humanitarian truce in Yemen in October 2022, without any formal agreement to renew it.

Last Thursday, UN Envoy Hans Grundberg warned of war returning to Yemen.

During a briefing to the UN Security Council, he said: "We witnessed continued clashes and troop movements in Hodeidah, Lahj, Marib, Saada, Shabwa, and Taiz."

Yesterday, the Houthis announced that it was conducting a military drill under the name ‘The Promised Day’ in Sanaa to simulate a realistic land fighting experience against US and UK forces as well as the Houthis’ local opponents.

According to the Houthi-run Saba News Agency, more than 2,000 fighters participated in the drill, which also featured tanks and heavy weapons and was attended by prominent Houthi leaders.
