The Southern Transitional Council (STC) has been distributing food baskets to thousands of families in South Yemen as part of a humanitarian project funded by the UAE.
According to the official STC website, 23,500 food baskets have been distributed in the capital, Aden, and the rest of the governorates of South Yemen as part of the first phase of the project, which targeted the families of killed and wounded Southerners.
The first phase began at the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. On March 19, the second phase began, which involves distributing 46,550 food baskets to poor families.
The aid distribution process is being supervised by the STC Relief and Humanitarian Aid Authority.
Locals in South Yemen have been suffering under an economic and humanitarian crisis that has been going on for years as a result of the war. Recently, this crisis has worsened due to rising food prices caused by the sharp decline in the local currency’s value.
The Houthi attacks against international shipping have also obstructed and raised the cost of food, fuel, and medicine shipments to the port of Aden and other Southern ports.
