Report: Yemen is Among the Most Dangerous Countries for Journalists

A report by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) said that Yemen is one of the most dangerous countries for journalists in the world.

In the report that monitored the reality of journalists in the world during the period from January 1 to December 1 of this year, RSF said that 3 journalists died in Yemen.

Among the dead journalists, the report mentioned Saber Al-Haidari, who was assassinated by a bomb planted in his car in the city of Aden in mid-June.

The report said, "Journalists continue to face multiple dangers in Yemen as a result of the civil war that began in 2014. They are as likely to be killed while covering clashes between the Arab coalition and Houthi rebels."

The Houthis and AQAP are the only ones to detain journalists in Yemen, with a total of 11 journalists who are still among the hostages during 2022.

According to the RSF, the Houthis are detaining 10 journalists, seven of whom have been in captivity for nearly eight years, including 4 facing death sentences.

The report also mentioned the journalist Mohamed Al-Moqri, who was abducted by "a group linked to AQAP" in Hadramout in 2015.

The Houthis were among the most prominent hostage-takers around the world, including ISIS, AQAP, and other jihadist and armed groups in the Middle East.

The report stated that two journalists who were in Houthi prisons in Sanaa were released in 2022, and they are Kamel Almamari and Younis Abdel Salam.

Worldwide, the report included records of dead, hostage, missing and detained journalists.

The number of killed journalists reached 57, while the number of hostages reached 65, 49 missing journalists, and 533 detained journalists.

RSF indicated that the statistic of detained journalists is the largest annual toll ever recorded.

Iran, which is witnessing widespread protests, came in the third largest prison for journalists in the world, with a number of 47 journalists, after China and Myanmar.
