Yemen's Houthi militia announced the death of two senior military commanders working in the group's air weapons (drones and missiles).

On Sunday, Houthi news agency Saba, mourned the commander of the Air Force and Defense, Major General Ahmed Ali Al-Hamzi, "who died as a result of a previous injury."

The agency did not mention any additional details on Al-Hamzi's death. Senior Houthi officials buried Al-Hamzi's body on Tuesday in Sanaa.

Houthi leader Abdulmalik Al-Houthi and other senior officials issued statements of condolence on Al-Hamzi's death.

Last Monday, the Houthi Defense Ministry also mourned Major General Mohammed Hussein Saleh Al-Hammasi, former commander of the militia's 140th Air Defense Brigade.

The statement said that Al-Hammasi passed away after an extraordinary career. The statement did not provide any additional details.

On Sunday, the Minister of Information in the internationally recognized Yemeni government, Muammar Al-Eryani, commented on the Houthis' announcement of the death of Major General Al-Hamzi.

Al-Eryani said that the Houthi militia failed to test new weapons in Serwah district of Marib governorate, which led to the killing of Al-Hamzi and Iranian experts alongside him.

South24 Center has not yet verified these claims from independent sources.

Al-Hamzi is considered one of the most prominent Houthi military commander.

The United States imposed sanctions on Al-Hamzi, along with another Houthi commander in March 2021 after air strikes that targeted Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi State Security Services also included Al-Hamzi on the terrorism list earlier.
