The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) announced on Tuesday that a quarter of Yemenis suffer from psychological disorders and are in need of mental health services.

Posting on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, The Fund wrote: “Did you know that 1 out of every 4 people in Yemen suffer from mental health issues and need responsive services?”

The announcement came as the world observed 2023’s World Mental Health Day.

Yemen recently entered the ninth year of its civil war, which has been ongoing since 2015. The conflict has led to the loss of tens of thousands of Yemeni lives as well as massively increased levels of poverty and deprivation across its various governorates.

Yemen has been experiencing a fragile de facto truce since April 2022, and has yet to reach an agreement to peacefully resolve the crisis.
