Prisoner Exchange Agreement Between Houthis and the Yemeni Government

The internationally recognized Yemeni government and the Houthi group signed today a broad prisoner exchange agreement, after a round of negotiations in Switzerland.

The agreement included the former Minister of Defense Major General Mohammed Al-Subaihi, who is from Lahj in South Yemen, in addition to hundreds of prisoners from both sides.

The head of the Houthi delegation negotiating prisoners' affairs, «Abdulqader al-Murtada, said that it was agreed to release 706 of the group's prisoners in exchange for 181 prisoners of the other side.

The agreement included many soldiers of the Saudi-led Coalition, in addition to Major General Nasser Mansour, brother of former President Abdrabbuh Mansour, and family members to Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar and Tariq Saleh.

The agreement also included four journalists in Houthi prisons in Sanaa who were sentenced to death on charges of espionage, according to a member of the government negotiation team Majed Fadail.

The agreement did not include Major General Faisal Rajab, one of the Southern commanders, who is expected to be included in the negotiations for the second round of prisoners, according to the government team member Yasser Al-Hadi.

Al-Hadi said that the release of the prisoners will take place during the coming month of Ramadan, while the second round of negotiations will start after Eid Al-Fitr.
